The Stamp's holiday!

Few weeks ago we went away for our first week end away since the wedding...
We went to Dover and then took a day trip to France...
We took the ferry to Calais, but then took a train straight to Boulogne-sur-mere... a town apx 45 min from Calais (everyone told us that there isn't that much to do in Calais) it was a fantastic trip!
We really enjoyed exploring... I've never been to either towns before, and for once it was great to explore new places together! The weather was nice and Boulogne was absolutely fabulous!
The old town is somehow similar to those medieval Italian towns Andrew and I love so much, and it's somewhere I definitely I want to go to visit again!
The next day we went to see Dover Castle... Unfortunately the main building of the castle was closed for refurbishment, but the famous Secret War time tunnels (mostly built during the Second World War) were opened, and we truly enjoyed visiting them!
The only disappointing thing was that we couldn't find a decent place to eat a "dover sole" while in Dover... so I guess it's off to my local fishmonger for that!

Dover beach!

The white cliffs of Dover and.... the ferry terminal!

These were the (now) world famous "Secret tunnels".
There is an impressive network of tunnels underneath this castle, some of them dated back from the middle ages, but most where excavated at the beginning of the first and second world war... We were lucky enough to be able to visit them and experience things like an underground hospital and see the room from which most strategic plans were made, including the escape from Dunkirk...
Andrew found this picture of Churchill coming out of that same tunnel that many years ago... The tour guide was very good, and in the tunnels there were very realistic sound and light effect... it was easy to picture yourself with the "cigared one" himself!

Dover Castle is really beautiful and unspoiled, we really enjoyed our visit there!
It was quite empty and peaceful, not really tourist season down there yet, and that made it the more enjoyable for us... The fact that the weather was so nice and warm made it extra sweet for the ever freezing  mummy!

A slightly bizarre and lonely parade in the castle ground... a bit eerie but very very picturesque!

This is the old part of Boulogne... it is absolutely stunning and ohhh so peaceful!
At the end both Kim and mummy were absolutely exhausted (Kim still has some serious problems on her feet) but we managed to go back to Dover were we stayed in a super nice B&B!

It's funny, on our side of the pond the beaches are all pebbles, and in France we found the nicest "silkiest" sand!
I bought this little trolly a few months ago and it's so handy! It holds so much and it's very light, needless to say that on our way back was filled with french cheeses and goodies!!!
I took this picture as we disembarked the ferry, because I thought it was very sweet (unintentionally so, I promise...) that Lilly was perfectly color coordinated... with the trolly!
ahhh, my little fashionista!

SUPER FREEZE!
Can you notice how Daddy was dressed?! A light jacket over his shirt! He was strolling on the ferry's deck breathing in the "fresh" (FREEEZING!) air and being all Canadian and happy... while I was cocooned with a heavy shirt, two jumpers and a heavy goretex coat and was still shivering! .... I guess that's when my Italian genes pop up!

It was a wonderful trip, and we can't wait to go outside London to explore our beautiful new adoptive country again soon!
